Like to be a vet Tech

Animals are amazing creatures. Almost everyone in the world loves animals and so do I. We also want our animals to feel loved and be helped. That is why being a Vet tech is a great job to do when you're working with animals. Everyone asks what it is like to be a Veterinarian Technician. I'm going to give you tips on what it is like to be a Vet Tech.

  • As a veterinary technician you’re not only just a general “nurse.”  If you were going to compare it to human medicine you’re also a dental technician, radiology technician, surgery technician, anesthesia technician, ect.
  • You must know at least dogs and cats. Many practices also see reptiles, birds, rabbits, sheep, goats, horses, ect. If you’re working with any of these other species you must have a basic understanding of them and be able to properly restrain, draw blood, and preform treatments.

  • Yes, everyone loves animals and most people wants to help them and be a Veterinarian Technician, but you want to see the pay and how much you get payed for being one. According to the BLS, veterinary techs employed by federal and state government agencies earned the highest average annual salaries, $48,020 and $44,770, respectively. Veterinary technicians earned an average of $43,400 at general hospitals. If working for an employment service, the average salary was $38,410; diagnostic and medical laboratories paid an average annual wage of $37,730.
  • Euthanasia is part of the job. Yes, it’s very sad. One of the most common questions you get is “how do you deal with putting animals to sleep?” Yes, it's the saddest thing in the world but it gets easier when it happens and you have to learn that it's a part of life.

  • There is a dress code when you become a vet tech. Most of the time, you wear scrubs.  Our dress should make everyone we encounter confident that we are a professional committed to excellence in patient and client care. Our dress code also has to be wrinkle free and clean.
  • This is what it is like to be a Veterinarian Technician. I hope this helps.
